Hello,
I've just joined this community, after seeing a link for it.
I hope you all have had a good christmas!

An introduction is in order..
I'm 19 and I've suffered from these 'issues' for about 5 years now.
I've recently been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia, gastritis and oesophagitus,
Now I'm not sure whether my 'disorder' has caused them but I guess they might be related.
Anyway,
I'm struggling, I have my step-mum on my case, she wants me to stop. My problem is that I put it before my health, and I'm not sure what to do anymore. I guess I need to get some support with all this

I'm glad you found us! This community isn't suuuper active, but I love the group of people that come around. It's one of the least judgemental communities I've ever been involved with. No matter where you are on your journey, no matter how much you are or aren't struggling, I love that people here can relate and often offer words of encouragement and support.

I'm 23, have been dealing with disordered eating to varying degrees since I was 12 along with a lot of other things like depression and self-injury and the like. I'm currently getting ready to start my last semester in grad school to become a mental health social worker. I'm mostly recovered, but I have days and weeks that are still really difficult. And the thoughts are pretty much always there. I'm in therapy and on meds, and both have helped more than I ever could have imagined.


Sounds like you know you need some help coping. And since your 19, at least you have control over how that happens. Are you in the US? Do you have insurance? Are you interested in seeing a counselor? If you want help finding resources, I certainly wouldn't mind helping you out.

I live in the UK and I see someone where I study at my university. But its more for depression (which I'm on meds for) than for my eating issues.

Have you mentioned your eating problems to this person? Has s/he helped you so far with at least the depression side of things?

I've come to realize that now, at least, my anxiety is primary to my disordered eating. While I still have the thought etc, the times when I end up restricting for weeks on end are times when I'm super anxious. So treating my anxiety seems to be key to helping with these remaining symptoms. Although that wasn't the case at first. I certainly think it may be worth bringing up your eating issues with the person you see at your uni or college if you think it could be useful.
